A Global Effort, A Local Milestone: Visiting Veterinarians Support PASH’s Desexing Outreach

This year marked a major milestone in our mission to reduce animal suffering in Fiji, welcoming an international team of visiting veterinarians to support a large-scale, free desexing outreach programme in Nadi. In partnership with Visiting Veterinarians International, a volunteer-based organisation from the United States dedicated to providing veterinary care in underserved communities worldwide, PASH hosted an intensive two-week spay and neuter campaign that delivered extraordinary results.

Over just six long and demanding days of clinics, 415 dogs and cats were successfully desexed—far exceeding the original target of 300 animals.

In addition to surgery, every animal received vaccinations and treatments for parasites including fleas and mange, ensuring they left healthier, protected, and better supported for the future.

Free Clinics, Community First

The programme was delivered entirely free of charge and ran across two locations.

Week one was held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, bringing veterinary care directly into the community and making desexing accessible to pet owners who might otherwise struggle to reach clinic services.

Week two continued at PASH, where surgeries and post-operative care carried on from our hospital facilities, allowing the team to treat as many animals as possible.

A Team Effort

PASH extends a heartfelt vinaka vakalevu to the VVI team for their professionalism, tireless work ethic, and unwavering dedication. Despite long hours, the clinics were filled with calm efficiency, smiling faces, and genuine compassion, qualities that define VVI’s work not only in Fiji, but across the globe.

Community and Sponsor Support

This campaign would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and supporters. Meals were kindly provided by Zig Zag, Small Plates, McDonald’s, Big Bite Pies, and Sada’s Restaurant. We also thank Go Advertising, Tajesh and Raina Patel, and the many individuals and businesses who assisted with advertising, accommodation, transport, and equipment logistics.

Every contribution, large or small has played a vital role in making this campaign a success.

For the Animals, With the Community

Most importantly, we thank the pet owners and caregivers who brought their animals to be desexed. You were the reason this programme existed. By choosing to desex your pets, you are helping keep them healthy and happy, while preventing unwanted puppies and kittens and reducing long-term animal suffering in Fiji.
