Open Your Heart. Open Your Home. Become a Foster.

Fostering is one of the most powerful ways you can help animals in need. By providing a temporary home, you’re giving a rescued dog or cat the chance to heal, grow, and prepare for their forever home. At PASH, our foster families play a vital role in easing shelter space, supporting recovery, and giving animals the love and care they deserve. Whether it’s for a few weeks or a few months, fostering saves lives—and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Which Type of Foster Is Right for You?

  • At PASH, we currently rescue both cats and dogs. We recommend fostering an animal you have experience with, as some of our shelter animals may require extra attention, patience, love, and care.

  • It's important to choose an age group you're comfortable with and ensure your home is suited for fostering. For example, larger dogs require a fenced yard and plenty of exercise, while younger puppies need one-on-one attention, training, and a lot of hands-on care. Older cats should be comfortable around dogs, and young kittens need a secure indoor space to safely explore, grow, and thrive.

Talk to our team about which age group is best suited to your lifestyle. We want this experience to be as seamless and stress-free as possible—for both you and the animal—so you can truly thrive together.

  • Finding the right match starts with the right personality.

At PASH, we know that every animal has a unique temperament—and so do our foster families. Whether you're more suited to a playful, high-energy companion or a calm, quiet cuddle buddy, choosing an animal with a personality that fits your lifestyle is key to a successful foster experience.

Some animals may need more structure and routine, while others thrive in busy, social households. We’ll work with you to understand your environment, preferences, and experience, and help match you with an animal whose personality complements your own.

The goal is to set both you and your foster animal up for success—so the journey is smooth, rewarding, and filled with connection. Let’s find your perfect match!

  • Some of our animals at PASH have special medical needs and need a little extra care while they heal.

These animals may be recovering from surgery, illness, injury, or managing a chronic condition. Their medical needs can be short-term or ongoing, but what they all need is a safe, calm environment and a foster home filled with patience and love. While fostering a special-needs animal requires a bit more attention, the experience is incredibly rewarding—you’ll be helping them through one of their most vulnerable moments and giving them the best chance at a full recovery and a brighter future.

  • Some of the animals at PASH are orphaned kittens and puppies under 8 weeks old who need round-the-clock care in a foster home.

Without their mothers, these little ones rely entirely on us for feeding, warmth, and comfort during their most fragile stage of life. Fostering orphaned babies can be intensive—they may need bottle-feeding, toileting support, and close monitoring—but it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences. You’ll be giving them a safe, loving start in life and helping them grow strong enough to find their forever homes.

Experience is required for this type of foster care due to the high level of attention involved. However, if this is something you’re passionate about learning and would like to become a long-term neonatal foster, please let us know—we’d be happy to guide you through the process with training and support.
